One of Peace Dale, RI's landmark businesses, Sweet Cakes Bakery & Café, will be awarded to the winning contest entry in 2010!Owners Betsy Rosengarden and Sarah Patten stress that this is a skills-based contest, not a lottery, and is open to anyone. To enter, contestants answer two specific questions in a short essay. The entry fee is $59.95. Four judges will evaluate the essays for completeness and for how compelling each writer’s narrative is (download rubric).Although a contest is an unusual way to sell a business, it has been done before, and Betsy and Sarah are excited about this creative approach. They stress the importance of finding a buyer who shares their enthusiasm for the local community, and hope to find someone who will experience the same joy they have in operating Sweet Cakes Bakery, Inc. for the past 9 years! All essays will be judged anonymously, and a contest administrator will be keeping essays and applicants contact information separate, so that judges will not be able to identify the writer of each essay. Winner to be announced by August 1, 2010 (see Official Rules for additional details)Please be sure to read all Official Rules, Terms & Conditions of Contest, and the rubric before applying online or applying by mail. We anticipate thousands of applications, and will only consider those essays that meet the criteria outlined in the Official Rules and address the Essay Questions.FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ) Apply Online | Apply by Mail Sweet Cakes Bakery in the Media |
